Baby Butch is the 84th one reel animated Tom and Jerry short, created in 1953 directed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera and produced by Fred Quimby with music by Scott Bradley. The cartoon was animated by Irven Spence, Kenneth Muse and Ed Barge with backgrounds by Vera Ohman. It was released on August 14, 1954 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
Plot

Butch fools Tom into thinking that he is a hungry baby.
Down a dirty alleyway, Butch the alley cat is scavenging for food, taking leftover food from dustbins and putting them in a rather dilapidated shopping cart. Just then, he spots a bottle of milk by a doorstep. As Butch approaches the house, Tom replaces the milk bottle with an empty one just before Butch grabs it. Butch angrily looks for more food to steal. He first spots a nice leg of ham by the windowsill. As he attempts to snatch it, Tom inside the house takes it without even seeing Butch, and closes the window right on Butch's hands. Butch sees a huge refrigerator and makes plans to reach it.
Butch then has an idea. He dresses as a baby, and finds a discarded cradle to use. Planning to enter the house under the disguise of a baby, he knocks on Tom's door and cries out. The door is opened by a curious Tom who sees the abandoned "baby" and reads a note resting on Baby Butch's body: "I AM A POOR HUNGRY WAIF. FEED ME.

Tom starts to cotton on to the fact that Baby Butch is in fact an imposter raiding the contents of his refrigerator, although he still sympathises the "baby."
Tom takes the cradle into the house, and walks offscreen to fetch some milk. While Tom is gone, Butch runs to the kitchen and snatches the ham from the refrigerator. Running back to the living room, Butch is about to sink his teeth into the ham, when Tom returns with a bottle of milk. Butch hides the ham behind a sofa. Tom feeds Butch the milk, soon realising he has been given milk and yells "MILK!". (leaving the audience to wonder why he tried to snatch the bottle in the first place), before realizing that he might have blown his cover. Butch resumes drinking, as Tom leaves.
Butch gets out of the cradle to look for his ham, but Jerry has taken it. Butch grabs the ham off Jerry and hits him over the head with it.
Butch is about to gobble the ham again when Tom returns. Butch hides the ham under the cradle and resumes drinking his milk. Tom picks Butch up and pats him in order to get him to burp. Butch says "BURP!" and Tom puts Butch back in the cradle again, walking off. Jerry then takes the ham again.
Tom has prepared a jacuzzi for Butch, but Butch spots Jerry stealing the ham again and bops him a second time. Yet again, Butch must hide the ham as Tom approaches; this time he wraps the ham in the cradle and hides under the cradle. Tom fills the jacuzzi and takes the ham over to it, but Butch replaces it with himself before Tom can process what he has seen. Jerry takes the ham for the third time as Tom drops Butch in the boiling water. Butch screams in pain and drops back down in, sending Tom headfirst into the jacuzzi. Butch chases after Jerry and bonks his head on a desk. A bump forms on his head and unties the bib on his head, potentially exposing himself. As Tom approaches him, Butch cries and points to Jerry leaving with the ham; this distraction allows him to retie his bib. Butch then hides in the refrigerator.
Tom catches up with Jerry and returns the ham to the refrigerator, but instead he has put it in Butch's mouth. He retrieves it before Butch can chomp on it. Butch asks in baby-talk for the ham, but Tom places it on the counter and takes Butch back to the living room; however Butch takes the ham, followed by Jerry for the fourth time. Butch cries out again.
Tom chases Jerry and the ham, while Butch swipes the ham when Jerry passes him. Tom continues the chase until Jerry stops him and points towards Butch cleaning out the refrigerator. He gets ready to eat the ham, but Tom takes it. They fight over the ham until Butch slams the door in Tom's face and steals the ham. Butch flees and reveals himself, but Jerry closes the bottom section of the door such that all the food stays in and Butch is thrown out.

Calcium oxide (CaO), commonly known as burnt lime, lime or quicklime, is a widely used chemical compound. It is a white, caustic and alkaline crystalline solid at room temperature. As a commercial product, lime often also contains magnesium oxide, silicon oxide and smaller amounts of aluminium oxide and iron oxide. The name lime (native lime) refers to a very rare mineral of the CaO composition.[citation needed]
Calcium oxide is usually made by the thermal decomposition of materials such as limestone, that contain calcium carbonate (CaCO3; mineral name: calcite) in a lime kiln. This is accomplished by heating the material to above 825, a process called calcination or lime-burning, to liberate a molecule of carbon dioxide (CO2); leaving CaO. This process is reversible, since once the quicklime product has cooled, it immediately begins to absorb carbon dioxide from the air, until, after enough time, it is completely converted back to calcium carbonate.

Usage
As hydrated or slaked lime, Ca(OH)2 (mineral name: portlandite), it is used in mortar and plaster. Hydrated lime is very simple to make as lime is a basic anhydride and reacts vigorously with water. Lime is also used in glass production and its ability to react with silicates is also used in modern metal production industries (steel, magnesium, aluminium and others) to remove impurities as slag.
It is also used in water and sewage treatment to reduce acidity, to harden, as a flocculant, and to remove phosphates and other impurities; in paper making to dissolve lignin, as a coagulant, and in bleaching; in agriculture to improve acidic soils; and in pollution control, in gas scrubbers to desulfurize waste gases and to treat many liquid effluents. It has traditionally been used in the burial of bodies in open graves, to hide the smell of decomposition, as well as in forensic science, to reveal fingerprints. It is a refractory and a dehydrating agent and is used to purify citric acid, glucose, dyes and as a CO2 absorber. It is also used in pottery, paints and the food industry. Furthermore, quicklime is used in epidemics, plagues, and disasters to disintegrate bodies in order to help fight the spread of disease. CaO is a key ingredient in the nixtamalization process used to create corn hominy and masa or tortilla dough. In ancient India, before the discovery of soap, it was mixed with sand and used to clean ones body, while it was also used to build houses.
A relatively inexpensive substance, CaO produces heat energy by the formation of the hydrate, as in the following equation:
CaO + H2O ? Ca(OH)2 + 63.7kJ/mol of CaO
The hydrate can be reconverted to calcium oxide by removing the water in the reversible equation. If the hydrated lime is heated to redness, the CaO will be regenerated to reverse the reaction. As it hydrates, an exothermic reaction results. One litre of water combines with approximately 3.1kg of calcium oxide to give calcium hydroxide plus 3.54MJ of energy. This process can be used to provide a convenient portable source of heat, as for on-the-spot food warming in a self-heating can.
When quicklime is heated to 4,300 degrees Fahrenheit, it emits an intense glow. This form of illumination is known as a limelight and was used broadly in theatrical productions prior to the invention of electric lighting.
Annual worldwide production of calcium oxide is around 283 million metric tons. The United States and China are the largest producers, producing around 20 and 170 million metric tons, respectively.

A cataract is a clouding that develops in the crystalline lens of the eye or in its envelope, varying in degree from slight to complete opacity and obstructing the passage of light. Early in the development of age-related cataract the power of the lens may be increased, causing near-sightedness (myopia), and the gradual yellowing and opacification of the lens may reduce the perception of blue colours. Cataracts typically progress slowly to cause vision loss and are potentially blinding if untreated. The condition usually affects both the eyes, but almost always one eye is affected earlier than the other.
A senile cataract, occurring in the aged, is characterized by an initial opacity in the lens, subsequent swelling of the lens and final shrinkage with complete loss of transparency. Moreover, with time the cataract cortex liquefies to form a milky white fluid in a Morgagnian cataract, which can cause severe inflammation if the lens capsule ruptures and leaks. Untreated, the cataract can cause phacomorphic glaucoma. Very advanced cataracts with weak zonules are liable to dislocation anteriorly or posteriorly. Such spontaneous posterior dislocations (akin to the historical surgical procedure of couching) in ancient times were regarded as a blessing from the heavens, because some perception of light was restored in the cataractous patients.
Cataract derives from the Latin cataracta meaning "waterfall" and the Greek kataraktes and katarrhaktes, from katarassein meaning "to dash down" (kata-, "down"; arassein, "to strike, dash"). As rapidly running water turns white, the term may later have been used metaphorically to describe the similar appearance of mature ocular opacities. In Latin, cataracta had the alternate meaning "portcullis", so it is also possible that the name came about through the sense of "obstruction". Early Persian physicians called the term nazul-i-ah, or 'descent of the water' - vulgarised into waterfall disease or cataract - believing such blindness to be caused by an outpouring of corrupt humour into the eye. In dialect English a cataract is called a pearl, as in "pearl eye" and "pearl-eyed".

Causes
Cataracts develop from a variety of reasons, including long-term exposure to ultraviolet light, exposure to radiation, secondary effects of diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and advanced age, or trauma (possibly much earlier); they are usually a result of denaturation of lens protein. Genetic factors are often a cause of congenital cataracts and positive family history may also play a role in predisposing someone to cataracts at an earlier age, a phenomenon of "anticipation" in pre-senile cataracts. Cataracts may also be produced by eye injury or physical trauma. A study among Icelandair pilots showed commercial airline pilots are three times more likely to develop cataracts than people with non-flying jobs. This is thought to be caused by excessive exposure to radiation coming from outer space. Cataracts are also unusually common in persons exposed to infrared radiation, such as glassblowers who suffer from "exfoliation syndrome". Exposure to microwave radiation can cause cataracts. Atopic or allergic conditions are also known to quicken the progression of cataracts, especially in children.
Cataracts may be partial or complete, stationary or progressive, hard or soft.
Some drugs can induce cataract development, such as corticosteroids and Ezetimibe[citation needed] and Seroquel.
There are various types of cataracts, e.g. nuclear, cortical, mature, and hypermature. Cataracts are also classified by their location, e.g. posterior (classically due to steroid use) and anterior (common (senile) cataract related to aging).
Symptoms
As a cataract becomes more opaque, clear vision is compromised. A loss of visual acuity is noted. Contrast sensitivity is also lost, so that contours, shadows and color vision are less vivid. Veiling glare can be a problem as light is scattered by the cataract into the eye. A contrast sensitivity test should be performed and if a loss in contrast sensitivity is demonstrated an eye specialist consultation is recommended.

Arthur Herbert Fonzarelli (also Fonzie or The Fonz) is a fictional character played by Henry Winkler in the American sitcom Happy Days (19741984). Character traits and development
Fonzie (The Fonz) is a leather jacketed Italian-American mechanic, and later, part-owner of Arnold's restaurant, who lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the 1950s. He is known for his catchphrases: "Whoa", and "Aaay!"/"Eyyy!" while snapping his fingers, and forming a thrust-forward double thumbs up. He is also known to be able to fix Arnold's jukebox (or cause it to play his favorite song) by hitting it with the side of his fist.
He is a high school dropout seen by establishment characters in the show as a rebel. As a child, he and his mother were abandoned by his father. The only advice Fonz remembered his father giving were "Don't wear socks in the rain." When he disappeared, he left a locked box for his son, but not a key; Arthur did everything to open the box, finally running over it with his tricycle. The contents? "The key, and that's it!"
In the sixth season episode "Christmas Time", his father, a sailor, delivers a Christmas present to make amends. Fonzie is resentful, but at the end of the episode reads his father's letter explaining why he left, and opens it. In a later episode, Fonz unexpectedly meets a woman he believes is his mother in a diner. She convinces him she is not, but in the end she looks at a picture of Fonz as a small child and sighs.

Occasional facts about the Fonz's past emerged: during the show, the Fonz finished his high school diploma at night school, became an auto mechanic instructor, and later school teacher. In later seasons, he went from being a womanizer to having a single long-term girlfriend. Though he never married, he adopted a young orphan boy named Danny in the final season, completing his transformation from rebel to family man. Various shows indicate that the Fonz has extensive martial arts training (though of the fictional Hollywood kind). In one show, he compares his nerve strike knowledge to that of a woman while both use Ralph as a training dummy.
A troubled past
Previously with two gangs, the Demons and the Falcons, his redemption began in the months before the series. The Fonz intervened in a rumble to which gang members had challenged high school student Richie Cunningham. Thanks to this intervention, Richie developed respect for Fonzie, and despite their differences, the two developed a friendship. While Richie learned the world from Fonz, Fonzie learned about a tight-knit family from the Cunninghams, from whom he eventually rented an attic room.
Even Richie's father, Howard (Mr C. to Fonzie), a pillar of the community, came to regard Fonzie with affection. Despite his aloofness, Fonzie had more whimsical traits, notably devotion to the Lone Ranger whom he meets in a later episode. While confident with women, he blushed when Mrs Cunningham ("Mrs C." to Fonzie), who became like a surrogate mother to him, kissed him on the cheek. Fonzie allowed Mrs C. to use his real name, which she did affectionately. Richie's sister Joanie also became attached to Fonzie; he called her "Shortcake".
Due to his a rough past, he commands respect throughout Milwaukee for knowing how to fight. In subsequent episodes, he out-dueled an expert fencer, mangled a gangster's prosthetic iron hand with one fist. His other skills included being a ladies' man and mechanic. His history also involved romantic involvement with every attractive woman in Milwaukee along with his imperturbable "cool."
Opponents larger than himself back down from confrontations; those who do confront him never come out on top.

Amber Halliday is a World Champion and Olympic lightweight rower from Adelaide, South Australia. Specialising in sculling, Halliday made her international debut in 1999, winning the Under-23 World Championship in Hamburg in the lightweight double scull with Hannah Every.
She has since won three world championships - the lightweight quad scull in 2001 (with Jo Francou, Catriona Roach and Sally Causby) and the lightweight double scull in 2002 (with Sally Causby) and 2007 (with Margeurite Houston).
Halliday also competed in the 2004 Olympic Games with double-partner Sally Newmarch, setting a world-best time in their heat before coming fourth in the final. Named South Australia's Sports Star of 2007 she was pre-selected for the Beijing Olympics where her crew placed 8th in a 'disappointing' performance.
Halliday is a member of the Adelaide University Boat Club.
In late 2008 Halliday swapped her row boat for a bicycle, training with the South Australian Sports Institute squad. While riding for MB Cycles, Halliday won her first ever cycle tour, the NZCT Women's Cycle Tour of New Zealand in February 2009 .
Most recently she was named the Amy Gillett Foundation Scholarship winner

According to the American Marketing Association, green marketing is the marketing of products that are presumed to be environmentally safe. Thus green marketing incorporates a broad range of activities, including product modification, changes to the production process, packaging changes, as well as modifying advertising. Yet defining green marketing is not a simple task where several meanings intersect and contradict each other; an example of this will be the existence of varying social, environmental and retail definitions attached to this term. Other similar terms used are Environmental Marketing and Ecological Marketing.
The legal implications of marketing claims call for caution. Misleading or overstated claims can lead to regulatory or civil challenges. In the USA, the Federal Trade Commission provides some guidance on environmental marketing claims.

The term Green Marketing came into prominence in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The American Marketing Association (AMA) held the first workshop on "Ecological Marketing" in 1975. The proceedings of this workshop resulted in one of the first books on green marketing entitled "Ecological Marketing".
The first wave of Green Marketing occurred in the 1980s. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Reports started with the ice cream seller Ben & Jerry's where the financial report was supplemented by a greater view on the company's environmental impact. In 1987 a document prepared by the World Commission on Environment and Development defined sustainable development as meeting he needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own need, this became known as the Brundtland Report and was another step towards widespread thinking on sustainability in everyday activity. Two tangible milestones for wave 1 of green marketing came in the form of published books, both of which were called Green Marketing. They were by Ken Peattie (1992) in the United Kingdom and by Jacquelyn Ottman (1993) in the United States of America.[citation needed]
In the years after 2000 a second wave of Green marketing emerged. By now CSR and the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) were widespread. Such publications as a 2005 United Nations Report, then in 2006 a book by Al Gore and the UK Stern Report brought scientific-environmental arguments to a wide public in an easy to understand way. This knowledge assessed the implications of moving to a low-carbon global economy and the potential of different approaches. This new wave of Green Marketing differed from the first wave in many respects. It is curious to note that Green Marketing Wave 1 followed an economic recession, whereas Green Marketing Wave 2 came before the global recession that come to be known as the redit Crunch. This difference may be significant in that it may suggest that Green Marketing is here to stay. The green marketing concept dictates, amongst other things, less use, recycling and avoiding waste, just some of the ways society reacts at times of recession. (see Bradley 2003 for 6 green marketing strategies).
According to Jacquelyn Ottman, (author of Green Marketing: Opportunity for Innovation) from an organizational standpoint, environmental considerations should be integrated into all aspects of marketing new product development and communications and all points in between. The holistic nature of green also suggests that besides suppliers and retailers new stakeholders be enlisted, including educators, members of the community, regulators, and NGOs. Environmental issues should be balanced with primary customer needs.[citation needed]

Chopard is a Geneva-based luxury watch, jewelry, and accessories company founded in 1860 by Louis-Ulysse Chopard at the age of 24. Chopard initially concentrated on developing precise pocket watches and chronometers based upon innovative ideas. Chopard is regarded as a manufacture, in other words that they make many of their watches and movements in-house rather than using the base movements (ebauches) of other manufacturers. In 1920 Chopard relocated to Geneva and launched into the production of quality watches.[citation needed]
In 1963 the Chopard Company was taken over by the young goldsmith and watchmaker Karl Scheufele, after Paul-Andre Chopard, the last master watchmaker who maintained the horological roots of the family, was forced to give up the business since his sons, following other careers, refused to manage the business. Paul-Andre agreed to sell the business to Karl Scheufele, who as the new head of the company, gained significant experience with watchmaking and jewelry making. He contributed to modernization of the company and added the jewelry segment into the Chopard watch production.
In 1975 the Chopard factory moved from the center of Geneva to Meyrin-Geneva. It marked a new stage for the company as it started producing ladies' and jewelry timepieces. In 1976 Chopard introduced the Happy Diamonds collection. Watches from the collection featured mobile diamonds that floated freely between two transparent sapphire crystals.
In 1980 the Chopard Company debuted with sports watches on leather straps. The range of Happy Diamonds watches was enlarged by jewelry pieces. The first Chopard boutiques were opened in Hong Kong, Geneva and Vienna in the 1980-s.
In 1988 Chopard established the cooperation with the Mille Miglia, an annual Italian rally where vintage and classic cars take part. To mark the partnership, Chopard has maintained the tradition of developing a new special edition Mille Miglia timepiece every year.
The Chopard Happy Sport collection appeared in 1993.
In 1996, the Chopard Company opened its independent movement factory in Fleurier.
Also in 1996, after years of planning and development, the first Chopard in-house movement of the late 20th century was produced, the calibre 1.96, encased in the "1860" hunter-back case, named for the historical origins of the manufacture. This was to be the flagship watch of Chopard, their re-entree as it were to manufacture status, and Chopard spared no effort with it. Only 300 of the 1860 hunter-back units are known to have been produced. However, the calibre 1.96 was incorporated into later iterations of the 1860 watch without the hunter-back. Many of these 1860 watches, called "16/1860/2" and "16/1860/3" and all without hunter-backs, were produced. The calibre 1.96 achieved a level of design and finish that set it apart and qualified it as haute horlogerie in many ways. It was stamped with the Geneva Seal which is a designation reserved for the highest level of construction and finish, incorporated a 22k micro-rotor into a very thin (3.3 mm) movement and with a unique bi-directional winding mechanism, had twin mainspring barrels allowing for a 65 hour power reserve, a breguet overcoil hairspring and a swan-neck micro regulator. It had 32 jewels and ran at 28,800 beats per hour. It was found to be a highly accurate movement. The calibre 1.96 was in many ways a ground-breaking movement for Chopard. Walt Odets wrote a comprehensive technical review of the 1.96 movement (see link below). It has been referred to as perhaps the finest Swiss automatic movement now produced.
In 1998 the Company partnered with the annual Cannes International Film Festival. In 2000 the beginning of the new millennium was marked by the introduction of the Chopard L.U.C Quattro watch, powered by a technically advanced caliber with four barrels - an innovation that provided 9-day power reserve.

Wayne Mark Rooney (born 24 October 1985) is an English footballer who currently plays as a striker for English Premier League club Manchester United and the England national team.
Rooney began his career with Everton, joining their youth team at age ten and rising through the ranks. Born on 24 October 1985 in Croxteth, Liverpool, Merseyside, Rooney is the first child of Thomas Wayne and Jeanette Marie Rooney (n Morrey).[dead link] He was raised in Croxteth with younger brothers Graeme and John, and all three attended De La Salle School. Wayne grew up supporting local club Everton, and his childhood hero was Duncan Ferguson.

After excelling for Liverpool Schoolboys and Dynamo Brownwings, Everton signed Rooney on schoolboy terms at the age of ten. He was part of the youth squad, and after scoring in an FA Youth Cup match, he revealed a T-shirt under his jersey that read, "Once a Blue, always a Blue." Since he was underage at the time and therefore ineligible for a professional contract, he was playing for ?80 a week and living with his family on one of the country's council estates.
On 19 October 2002, five days before his seventeenth birthday, Rooney scored a match-winning goal against reigning league champions Arsenal; in addition to ending Arsenal's thirty-match unbeaten run, it made Rooney the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history, a record that has since been surpassed twice by James Milner and currently James Vaughan. He was named BBC Sports' 2002-03 Young Personality of the Year.
At the end of the 2003-04 season, Rooney, citing Everton's inability to challenge for European competition, requested a transfer that Everton refused to oblige if the transfer fee was less than ?50million. A three-year, ?12,000-a-week contract offer from the club was snubbed by Rooney's agent in August 2004, leaving Manchester United and Newcastle United F.C. to compete for his signature. The Times reported that Newcastle were close to signing Rooney for ?18.5million, as confirmed by Rooney's agent, but Manchester United ultimately won the bidding war and Rooney signed at the end of the month after a ?25.6million deal with Everton was reached. It marked the most expensive transfer for a teenaged player ever, at the time of the signing.
On 1 September 2006, Everton manager David Moyes sued Rooney for libel after the tabloid newspaper The Daily Mail published excerpts from Rooney's 2006 autobiography that accused the coach of leaking Rooney's reasons for leaving the club to the press. The case was settled out of court for ?500,000 on 3 June 2008, and Rooney apologized to Moyes for "false claims" he had made in the book regarding the matter.

The Martha's Vineyard was a sidewheel steamer operating as a ferry serving the island of Martha's Vineyard during the second half of the nineteenth century.
It was built in 1871 in Brooklyn, NY. It was a 515-ton vessel, 185 feet long, with a 29' beam.
A 1961 Vineyard Gazette article noted the beauty of the vessel: "The Martha's Vineyard...had decorated paddleboxes that made large, rhythmic and beautiful half-circles on the sides." as well as how exposed it was: " The Martha's Vineyard at first had no hurricane deck open to passengers, and eventually only a partial one." The same article also adds a quotation from 1871:
""The cabins, saloons, ante-rooms, etc., are comfortable and roomy, and finished in a handsome manner. The lower cabin, which extends from the stern to the after end of the engine, has locker seats on the sides, and the kitchen and stewards' rooms are adjoining, on each side of the engine. There is a flight of stairs, black walnut, from the after part of the cabin to the ladies' saloon, as well as a similar flight from the forward part. This saloon is nearly double the size of that of the Monohansett, and its ample space is handsomely carpeted and finished in a very tasteful manner. A flight of double circular stairs, of black walnut, aft of the engine, connects with the promenade saloon, which is 90 feet in length, extending from the stern to the forward gangway. The saloon is enclosed with broad handsome windows, opening on the guards and there is an open promenade deck fore and aft. A handsome carpet covers the floor of the saloon, and black walnut seats encompass the magnificent room. There is a handsome dome over the stairway with fancy glass windows. The painting and panel work of the saloon is particularly outstanding."
From 1871 until 1886, the Martha's Vineyard and the Monohansett were the only two ferries serving Martha's Vineyard.
In March 1886 the Martha's Vineyard became one of the initial four steamers operating for the newly organized New Bedford, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket Steamboat Co. (The other three were River Queen, Island Home and the Monohansett.)
In 1922, a new ferry Martha's Vineyard began service to the island. It operated until at least the 1940s.
In the 1993, a third steamship M/V Martha's Vineyard, started its service to Martha's Vineyard and Woods Hole. It was named after this 19th-century steamer.

Hairspray is a 2007 American musical film produced by Zadan/Meron Productions and distributed by New Line Cinema. It was released in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom on July 20, 2007. The film is an adaptation of the 2002 Broadway musical of the same name, and loosely based from John Waters's 1988 comedy film of the same name. Set in 1962 Baltimore, Maryland, the film follows the "pleasantly plump" teenager Tracy Turnblad as she simultaneously pursues stardom as a dancer on a local TV show and rallies against racial segregation.
Adapted from both Waters's 1988 script and Thomas Meehan and Mark O'Donnell's book for the stage musical by screenwriter Leslie Dixon, the 2007 film version of Hairspray is directed and choreographed by Adam Shankman. Hairspray features songs from the Broadway musical written by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, as well as four new Shaiman/Wittman compositions not present in the original Broadway version.
Opening to positive reviews, Hairspray met with financial success, breaking the record for biggest sales at opening weekend for a movie musical, which the film held until July 2008 when it was surpassed by Mamma Mia! and later High School Musical 3: Senior Year in October. Hairspray went on to become the fourth highest grossing musical film in US cinema history, behind the film adaptations of Grease, Chicago, and Mamma Mia!. Available in a variety of formats, Hairspray's Region 1 home video release took place on November 20, 2007. USA Network has purchased the broadcast rights to Hairspray and is scheduled to debut the film on cable television in February 2010.

May 3, 1962. Tracy Turnblad (Nikki Blonsky), a cheerful, rotund high school student living in Baltimore, Maryland steps out of her apartment ("Good Morning Baltimore"), only to endure a day worth of school so she and her best friend Penny Pingleton (Amanda Bynes) can race home to view their favorite TV show, The Corny Collins Show. The program, a teen dance show, is broadcast from Baltimore station WYZT on weekday afternoons ("The Nicest Kids in Town").
The teenagers featured on the show attend Tracy and Penny's school, among them the arrogant and wealthy Amber Von Tussle (Brittany Snow) and her boyfriend Link Larkin (Zac Efron), the lead male dancer on the show. Amber mother, Velma (Michelle Pfeiffer) manages station WYZT and goes out of her way to make sure that Amber is prominently featured and that The Corny Collins Show remains a racially segregated program. Corny Collins (James Marsden) and all of his "Council Members" are white; black kids are only allowed on The Corny Collins Show on "Negro Day", held the last Tuesday of each month and hosted by local R&B radio disc jockey Motormouth Maybelle (Queen Latifah), who also owns her own record shop on North Avenue.
Tracy's reclusive laundress mother Edna (John Travolta) and Penny's strict Catholic mother Prudy (Allison Janney) disapprove of their daughters' fascinations with the program; Tracy's father, Wilbur (Christopher Walken), a joke-shop proprietor, is far more lenient. Bob Fass (born June 29, 1933) is an American radio personality and pioneer of free-form radio, who for more than 40 years has provided New York area listeners with alternative political and cultural coverage, presenting voices passed over or not yet discovered by the major media.
Fass Program, Radio Unnameable, which airs Thursday evenings shortly after midnight on Pacifica Radio station WBAI, and is also available in streaming format, was a creative and influential performance venue, beginning in the 1960s, when it aired Monday through Friday from midnight until 5 am, broadcasting amongst others Bob Dylan, and the original performance(s) of Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant".

Who is Bob Fass?
Maybe you were dreading school or your commute to work the next morning. Or were lonely and just couldn sleep. Or driving your cab through the dark streets of the Big Apple, you decided it would be nice to have some company. Every weekday at midnight, if you tuned your radio to 99.5FM, there was Bob Fass welcoming you into his world. ood morning, cabal, he intoned in a hushed voice as befit the hour. his is WBAI-FM in New York and youe listening to Radio Unnameable.
For the next five hours, Fass steered his iconic free-form show through the night. There were no scheduled stops and you never knew who he pick up before dawn; Bob Dylan stopping by to joke with listeners, investigative reporter Mae Brussel offering up the latest dish on the secret army at the White House, Arlo Guthrie debuting a song he just finished, called lice Restaurant, Abbie Hoffman sharing his first impression of prospective jurors at the Chicago Seven trial (hey sure as hell aren hippies, Il tell you that much!). One night, you catch a planning session for the Central Park Be-In, on another, an unknown named Phoebe Snow would step up to the mic and sing her heart out. Sometimes, a suicidal listener, reaching for a lifeline, called in. Everyone was welcome on board.
To call Bob Fass a radio DJ doesn begin to describe his life and work on the air, beginning in 1963 and continuing to the present day.
For Neil Fabricant, Legislative Director of New York ACLU during the 1960, Bob Fass was midwife at the birth of the counter culture.
He ad a more intimate and lasting relationship with his audience than any performer in any medium I had ever encountered says his former colleague, Steve Post.
In his book, Public Radio & TV in America: A Political History, Ralph Engleman (who as chairman of WBAI Board would fire Fass from the station for insurrection in 1977) cites Fass as he father of freeform radio.
He also plays a major role in Marc Fisher book, Something In The Air, which covers radio impact in the post TV years. The Washington Post columnist describes how the mad as hell and I not going to take it any more! scene in the film, Network, grew out of an actual incident when WOR Jean Shepherd exhorted his listeners to throw open their windows, stick out their heads, and shout, xcelsior!", then he goes on to write:
hepherd took the unseen audience and let them see each other, but it Bob Fass who took that to the next level, giving it social and political meaning. Fass really opened the door and summoned the audience into the action. He used the mass media to amass a very real movement.

Salmonella is a genus of rod-shaped, Gram-negative, non-spore forming, predominantly motile enterobacteria with diameters around 0.7 to 1.5?m, lengths from 2 to 5?m, and flagella which project in all directions (i.e. peritrichous). They obtain their energy from oxidation and reduction reactions using organic sources and are facultative anaerobes; most species produce hydrogen sulfide, which can readily be detected by growing them on media containing ferrous sulfate, such as TSI.
Salmonella are closely related to the Escherichia genus and are found worldwide in warm- and cold-blooded animals, in humans, and in nonliving habitats. They cause illnesses in humans and many animals, such as typhoid fever, paratyphoid fever, and the foodborne illness salmonellosis.
Salmonella is properly pronounced voicing the initial "l," since it is named for pathologist D.E. Salmon, not the salmon fish.

Salmonella infections are zoonotic; they can be transmitted by humans to animals and vice versa. Infection via food is also possible. A distinction is made between enteritis salmonella and typhoid/paratyphoid/salmonella, whereby the latter because of a special virulence factor and a capsule protein (virulence antigen) can cause serious illness, such as Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica Serovar Typhi, or Salmonella typhi). Salmonella typhi is adapted to humans and does not occur in animals.
Enteritis Salmonella (e.g., Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica Serovar Enteritidis, for short Salmonella enteritidis or Salmonella typhimurium ) cause diarrhoea which usually heals spontaneously and does not require antibiotic treatment. However, people at risk such as infants, small children, the elderly, HIV patients and those with suppressed immunity can become seriously ill (general infections).
In Germany Salmonella infections must be reported ( 6 and 7 of the German law on infectious disease prevention = Infektionsschutzgesetz). Between 1990 and 2005 the number of officially recorded cases decreased from ca. 200,000 to ca. 50,000. It is estimated that every fifth person in Germany is a carrier of Salmonella. In the USA there are approximately 40,000 cases of Salmonella infection reported each year. Worldwide the WHO reckons with over 16 million typhoid fever infections annually, over half of them fatal.
Salmonella can survive for weeks outside a living body. They have been found in dried excrement after over 2.5 years. Sunlight (ultraviolet radiation) accelerates their demise; they perish after being heated to 55 degrees C for one hour, or to 60 degrees C for half an hour. To protect against salmonella infection, it is recommended that food be heated for at least ten minutes at 75 degrees C (temperature at the center). The bacteria are not destroyed by freezing.
History
The genus Salmonella was named after Daniel Elmer Salmon, an American veterinary pathologist. While Theobald Smith was the actual discoverer of the typebacterium Salmonella enterica var. Choleraesuis) in 1885, Salmon was the administrator of the USDA research program and thus the organism was named after him. Smith and Salmon had been searching for the cause of common hog cholera and proposed this organism as the causal agent. Later research, however, would show that this organism (now known as Salmonella enterica) rarely causes enteric symptoms in pigs , and was thus not the agent they were seeking (which was eventually shown to be a virus). However, related bacteria in the genus Salmonella were eventually shown to cause other important infectious diseases.
Salmonella Nomenclature
Salmonella nomenclature is complicated. Initially each Salmonella species was named according to clinical considerations, e.g., Salmonella typhi-murium (mouse typhoid fever), S. cholerae-suis (hog cholera). After it was recognized that host specificity did not exist for many species, new strains (or serovar, short for serological variants) received species names according to the location at which the new strain was isolated. Later, molecular findings led to the hypothesis that Salmonella consisted of only one species, S. enteric, and the serovar were classified into six groups, two of which are medically relevant. Mary Ramsey Wood (May 20, 1787 or 1811 (disputed) January 1, 1908) was an American pioneer known as the "Mother Queen of Oregon." She was reported to be the oldest living person in the United States when she died at the supposed age of 120, and it is said she traveled to the Oregon Territory across the Oregon Trail at the age of 66. There is evidence this age claim was inaccurate or exaggerated, however, and she may have been 96 when she died.

This section is based mainly on two 1908 obituaries for Mary Ramsey Wood. Those obituaries were likely mistaken about her being born in 1787, as described below; thus, many of the age-related facts may be inaccurate.
At the time of her death, Mary Ramsey was reported to have been born on May 20, 1787 on a farm near Knoxville, Tennessee. The child of brick maker Richard Ramsey and his wife, Kate, Mary grew up in Tennessee. Her parents were born in England and immigrated to North America after they were married. In the American Colonies they settled in Tennessee and raised ten children. Mary was the sixth child. Her mother was reported to have lived to the age of 110, while her father lived to be a few years younger. Richard built the first brick home in Knoxville, and the family was wealthy and owned slaves. In her early years she danced with General Andrew Jackson, for whom her father fought in the War of 1812.
At the age of 12, Mary joined the Methodist church, and at 17 married Jacob Lemons in Tennessee in 1804. The couple would raise four children on their farm in that state. The children were Mary Jane Lemons, Isaac Lemons, Nancy Lemons Bullock, and Mrs. Catherine B. Reynolds. In 1837, the family moved to Alabama followed by Georgia the next year. In 1839 Jacob died, and Mary moved to Missouri in 1849.
In 1852, Lemons moved to the Oregon Territory with her youngest daughter Catherine. She rode horseback the entire journey at the age of 66, and the family brought 12 slaves with them to Oregon. She named her horse Martha Washington Pioneer. The family arrived in Oregon in 1853 after following the Barlow Road into Oregon City, and settled in Washington County at Hillsboro in the Tualatin Valley. She married John Wood on May 28, 1854, in Hillsboro. He built the first frame hotel in Hillsboro, in which Mary tended bar at the in-house saloon.
Around 1865, the couple sold the hotel to Mary daughter Catherine, and John Wood died in the 1870s. Mary then served as postmaster before retiring to her daughter residence. In 1879, she suffered from typhoid fever and lost the sight in her left eye. In 1904, she testified in a trial concerning a 40-year-old land deed, where she was noted for having a "keen" memory. In 1907, Wood was crowned as the "Mother Queen" of Oregon by former Oregon Senator George Henry Williams and the president of the Oregon Pioneer Association, J. D. Lee.

Still according to contemporary obituaries, Mary Ramsey Wood died at the age of 120 on January 1, 1908, at five olock in the morning. At the time of her death she was thought to be the oldest living person in the United States. She was also referred to as the "oldest Methodist in the world". She was buried at the Hillsboro Pioneer Cemetery. The Hillsboro Civic Center was built at the former site of Wood's hotel, and there is an informational plaque in the plaza of the center about Wood. In 2005, it was proposed that a fountain at the civic center be named for Wood.
January 1, 2008 was named Mary Ramsey Wood Day by the City of Hillsboro. Local historian James Andrew Long advocated for this recognition of Wood.
Longevity claim
The claim that Mary Ramsey Wood lived to 120, though long accepted as correct, now appears to be incorrect.
Had she truly lived to age 120, as claimed, Mary Ramsey Wood would have been the world's oldest person and would still hold the record as "oldest American on record" even today. She does not, however; that distinction, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, belongs to Sarah Knauss, who died at age 119.
There is a Mary Wood listed in the 1880 Hillsboro census, however, whose age is stated as 69 years old. This age would place her date of birth in 1811, making her 96 years old at the time of her death.

In the mid 1950s, Williams was one of the most sought-after session guitarists in Chicago, yet he was little known outside the music industry since his name rarely appeared on discs. His acclaimed comeback in 2002 led to a resurgence of interest in Williams early work, and his reappraisal as one of the great blues guitarists.

Born in Mobile, Alabama, Williams moved to Chicago at the age of five. His first instrument was the harmonica, which he swapped for the guitar after hearing Bo Diddley play at a talent show they were both performing in. Diddley, seven years his senior, took Williams under his wing and taught him the rudiments of guitar. By 1951 Williams and Diddley were playing on the street together, with Williams providing backing to Diddley's vocals, accompanied by Roosevelt Jackson on washtub bass. Williams cut his teeth gigging with a string of blues musicians, notably Memphis Minnie, Elmore James and Otis Spann. After touring with West Coast piano player Charles Brown, Williams established himself as a session player with Chess Records.
At Chess, Williams met Howlin Wolf, recently arrived in Chicago from Memphis, Tennessee, and became a member of his band. Williams played guitar alongside Hubert Sumlin on Howlin Wolf 1954 singles, "Evil Is Going On", and "Forty Four", and on the 1955 releases, "Who Will Be Next" and "Come To Me Baby". Williams also provided backing on Otis Spann 1954 release, "It Must Have Been The Devil", that features lead guitar work from B. B. King, one of Williams early heroes and a big influence on his playing.
Williams solo career began in 1955 with the upbeat saxophone-driven "Lookin For My Baby", released under the name Little Papa Joe on Al Benson's Blue Lake label. By this time, Williams was highly sought after as a session guitarist, and his virtuosity in this capacity is well illustrated by his blistering lead guitar work on Bo Diddley's "Who Do You Love?", a hit for Checker Records in 1956. Other notable session work from the 1950s include lead guitar parts on Jimmy Rogers "One Kiss", Jimmy Witherspoon "Ain't Nobody's Business" and Otis Rush "Three Times A Fool".
In 1957, Williams released "You May" on Argo Records under the name Little Joe Lee, with the inventive b-side instrumental "Lucky Lou", the extraordinary opening riff of which Otis Rush adapted for his 1958 Cobra Records side "All Your Love (I Miss Loving)". Further evidence of Williams influence on Rush (they played in a number of sessions together) is Rush solo on Buddy Guy 1958 debut, "Sit And Cry (The Blues)", copied almost exactly from Williams "You May".
Disullusionment with music business
The frequency with which Williams found his distinctive guitar phrases being copied without credit led to increasing disenchantment with the music business. When the riff he created for Billy Stewart's 1956 Argo release, "Billy's Blues", was appropriated by Mickey Baker for the Mickey & Sylvia hit, "Love Is Strange", Chess Records took legal action. At the conclusion of the case in 1961, Williams gained neither credit nor compensation. "I was ripped off," Williams later told John Sinkevics in the Grand Rapids Press. In the early 1960s, Williams was making a living gigging with his Big 3 Trio (distinct from Willie Dixon group of the same name), but by the end of the decade, he had retired from the music industry altogether. He studied electronics and eventually became a technical engineer for Xerox, his job for over 25 years.
Comeback
Only after his retirement did he consider picking up his guitar again, which had laid untouched under his bed all the while. "One day my wife said if I started playing again I might feel better about life in general," he told Hoekstra of the Chicago Sun-Times. In 2000, he went to see his old friend...(and so on)
